Access Control and Intrusion

An access control system determines who is allowed to enter or exit, where they are allowed to exit or enter, and when they are allowed to enter or exit. Historically, this was accomplished through keys and locks, however mechanical systems have many drawbacks. Electronic access control systems use computers and electronics to solve the limitations of mechanical systems and  have significant advantages such as:

  • Customized access determined by credentials presented
  • Entry remains secure at all times
  • Upon access, door remains open only for a predetermined length of time and then is re-secured
  • Alarm capability for events such as forced entry or door propping
  • All access attempts are recorded, including denied access
